Toddlers in the Footsteps of Digenis Akritas
Preschool children who participated in the Museum Education program on Digenis Akritas, co-organized by the ELA Greek Language Program for Toddlers of the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) Schools and the Educational Institution 'Hellenism of Anatolia – from the Aegean Sea to Pontos', had the opportunity to embark on a fascinating journey through time on Thursday, June 13.
This hourly Museum Education program was created by the collaborating institutions for children aged 18 months to 4 years as part of the Educational Institution’s exhibition entitled "In the Footsteps of Digenis Akritas."
During the program, young visitors to the exhibition area had the opportunity to listen to the story of Digenis Akritas in Greek and follow him on his adventures through music-kinetic activities, art crafts, a treasure hunt, dancing, and singing. Parents and children toured the exhibits and enjoyed a charming journey through history, which left the best impressions on everyone.
Mrs. Soumi, co-organizer of the event and coordinator of the GCM program "ELA Greek Language Program for Toddlers," stated: "It is very important for us to initiate our young students from the first years of their lives into the wonderful world of Greek history and culture through personal experience and play. The response of the children is incredible; it fills us with joy and strength to continue our efforts and develop similar initiatives and collaborations in the future."
