The Greek Centre for Contemporary Culture (Greek Centre) was completed by the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) at its Lonsdale Street site in 2014.
The 15 level building houses the head office of the GCM, 3 levels of event / conference / education spaces, the GCM library and lounge and 10 levels of leased space that are home to businesses such as the National Bank of Greece and the Institute of Tertiary and Higher Education Australia (ITHEA).
The building features a rooftop restaurant/bar (Fable) that boasts some of the best views of the Melbourne CBD.
The Greek Centre design uniquely hides the image of “Discobulus” (the discus thrower) in its Lonsdale Street façade and in 2022 will be wrapped in a unique 1 to 1 replica of a section of the Parthenon Frieze hand carved in marble in Greece.
The Greek Centre hosts a broad variety of activity including an extensive schedule of Greek language, Ancient Greek language and Greek for beginners classes. It hosts regular musical performances (Live at The Greek) and the acclaimed Greek Language and Culture Seminar Series.
It is also home each April May to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and regularly hosts meetings and conferences from a broad range of community organisations ad corporates.
