Shaping the Next Generation of Teachers

The Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) Schools are embarking on the third year of their innovative Training and Mentoring Program for Future Greek Teachers.

The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance Greek language proficiency by introducing new and qualified staff to the Greek schools within the community. These individuals are anticipated to play a crucial role in rejuvenating teaching methods while fostering a connection between the Greek and Australian education systems.

The success of this important program, which is shaping the next generation of teachers, is already evident, with the initial graduates now actively teaching in schools, bringing to their teaching roles a distinct blend of quality and freshness.

Mr. Christos Raspa, the coordinator of the program, remarked, "We initiated the program two years ago in response to a shared recognition of the need to enhance and augment the pool of qualified Greek teachers in our community. We are highly pleased, even impressed, by the success of our endeavour, with our initial graduates already staffing our schools as teachers. Their enthusiasm and energy, coupled with the experience and knowledge of veteran teachers, have played a pivotal role in forming an outstanding and dynamic group of educators dedicated to serving the Greek language in the most effective manner."

This Mentoring Program is conducted annually. Participants include graduates and seniors from the Greek Community of Melbourne Schools, selected based on their proficiency in Greek, diligence, and a genuine interest and passion for the Greek language. While primarily aimed at individuals associated with the Community schools, it is an inclusive program, and other interested young people meeting the specified criteria can attend with prior consultation with the coordinators.
