Nikos Oikonomopoulos Visits the Greek Centre

Nikos Oikonomopoulos, a popular modern Greek laiko singer, visited the Greek Community of Melbourne's Greek Centre. Upon his arrival, he received a warm welcome from Bill Papastergiadis OAM, the President of the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) and GCM Board Member Christos Sikavitsas. Also present to greet him were Jorge Menidis, the Director of the Greek Centre, Antonia Tsamis, the Public Relations Manager of GCM and the GCM staff.

During his tour of the Greek Centre, Oikonomopoulos immersed himself in the rich history and cultural significance of the GCM. Through his visit, the singer exemplified the enduring power of music to bridge cultures and create lasting connections.

The delegation showed to the singer the replica of the Parthenon Marbles that had been installed on the Greek Centre balcony façade. They explained that the Frieze is a replica carved from marble as close to the original works as has been endorsed by the Greek Ministry of Culture and it took over 18 months to be hand carved.

"His genuine interest in the Greek Community of Melbourne's activities and his congratulations to their efforts showcased his appreciation for preserving and promoting Greek heritage. We are grateful for his visit and the positive impact he has left on our community," said Christos Sikavitsas .

Ο Νίκος Οικονομόπουλος, ένας από τους πιο δημοφιλής Έλληνες τραγουδιστές, επισκέφθηκε το Ελληνικό Κοινοτικό Κέντρο της Μελβούρνης. Κατά την άφιξή του τον υποδέχθηκαν ο Πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας της Μελβούρνης, Βασίλης Παπαστεργιάδης, ο Γιώργος Μενίδης, Διευθυντής του Ελληνικού Κέντρου, και η Αντωνία Τσάμη, Υπεύθυνη Δημοσίων Σχέσεων της ΕΚΜ καθώς και το προσωπικό της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας.

Ο Νίκος Οικονομόπουλος έμαθε για την πλούσια ιστορία της ΕΚΜ καθώς και για την ευρεία γκάμα πολιτιστικών εκδηλώσεων. Επιπλέον, ο τραγουδιστής τόνισε τη σημασία που έχει η μουσική στη δημιουργία δυνατών δεσμών.

'Eπειτα συνόδεψαν τον τραγουδιστή προκειμένου να του δείξουν το αντίγραφο των Γλυπτών του Παρθενώνα που στολίζουν την πρόσοψη του μπαλκονιού του Ελληνικού Κέντρου. Του εξήγησαν ότι η Ζωφόρος είναι αντίγραφο που χαράχθηκε από μάρμαρο και έχει λάβει έγκριση από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού της Ελλάδας και χρειάστηκε πάνω από 18 μήνες για να χαραχθεί στο χέρι.
