Melbourne’s Greeks Support the Volunteer Firefighters of Greece
Once again, Greece is experiencing the unfortunate consequences of wildfires that are raging in various regions of the country. As we closely monitor the developments, Melbourne’s broad Greek community extends its solidarity to the Greek people and hope that the devastating fires will be brought under control soon.
As we have done in previous years, we in particular express our support for the brave volunteer firefighters who with sacrifice and dedication, confront danger protecting the lives and properties of the Greek people.
Once again in a demonstration of our support for our brothers and sisters in Greece, the Greek community in Melbourne will unite in an effort to raise funds towards assisting the Hellenic Volunteer Firefighters (HVFA) can best utilise any funds raised effectively in the ongoing battle with wildfires.
A pan-community call supported by major Greek Australian media including The Greek Media Group (3XY and Ta Nea), Neos Kosmos, The Greek Herald, 2MM radio (Sydney-Darwin) and Rythmos radio is being made encouraging donations so that assistance can be given to the HVFA in earnest.
