Meeting Between GCM President and New Greek Consul General in Melbourne

The President of the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM), Mr.Bill Papastergiadis OAM, had the pleasure of meeting with the new Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Ms. Dimitra Georgantzioglou, who recently assumed her duties.

The meeting took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, focusing on the support and enhancement of Melbourne's vibrant Greek community. Particular emphasis was placed on maintaining and strengthening the strong ties of the diaspora with Greece, as well as the role of the Consulate General in ensuring prompt and quality services for Greeks living abroad.

Ms. Dimitra Georgantzioglou highlighted:
"It is a great honour to take on my duties in Melbourne and to collaborate with such an active and passionate diaspora. Providing prompt and effective service to Greeks abroad is a primary priority, with the aim of facilitating their daily lives. Our collaboration with the Greek Community of Melbourne is crucial in achieving these goals."

Ms. Georgantzioglou also stressed the importance of digitizing consular services, which has already started to simplify access to public services, making procedures more immediate and accessible.

Mr. Bill Papastergiadis OAM stated:
"The GCM is an organization that strives to maintain and strengthen its bonds with Greece. We are proud of our collaboration with the Consulate General and the support it offers to the diaspora. I am confident that, with Ms. Georgantzioglou, we will develop even more initiatives that promote unity and prosperity for Greeks in Melbourne."

During the meeting, the President of the GCM briefed the Consul General on the Community’s upcoming activities and events, such as the 2025 "Antipodes" Festival, which will take place on February 22-23, as well as the traditional celebrations of Greek Independence Day on March 25.

Both parties agreed to work closely together to jointly address any challenges that may arise for the diaspora and to strengthen the relationship of trust and collaboration between the Greek community and the Greek authorities.
