GCM Students to Participate in National Day Parade

The students of the GCMS's Greek Language and Culture Schools will be participating in this year's National Day Parade, taking place on Sunday, 19 March 2023, at the Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park. In addition to the parade, a group of students will also be joining other schools in a flag-raising ceremony at the Shrine on Saturday, in honor of the heroes who fought for Greece's independence.

The participation of the GCM students in these events is a testament to the importance of recognising and honouring the country's history, as well as instilling a sense of cultural pride and respect in the younger generation.

This year's Greek National Day Parade will take place at Lakeside Stadium, with all participating groups required to be ready by 12:30 pm outside the Stadium at Palms Lawn. Each participating school or group will receive a specific number via email prior to the parade and must congregate at their allocated number by 12:30 pm. Parade marshals will guide the groups to line up based on their number, with the parade commencing the moment they step inside the stadium.

Spectators will enter the stadium from the main entry and gate 3 and will be allowed to be seated at either grandstand. All schools are encouraged to provide appropriate uniforms for their respective schools, clearly labeled with the school's name.

Once the parade is completed, a brief closing ceremony will take place, including speeches and national anthems. Parents will be able to pick up their children only from the school or organisation's dedicated number, and not before the parade has been completed. The students will remain in their spots on the grassed playing field and may sit if necessary, while flag bearers will form a guard near the VIPs.

The participation of Melbourne's Greek Language and Culture Schools in the National Day Parade is a testament to the significance of celebrating and honoring cultural heritage. It is an excellent opportunity for the younger generation to connect with their roots and feel a sense of pride in their cultural identity.
