Antonis Remos Visits the Greek Centre

On Sunday 23 April famous Greek popular singer Antonis Remos visited the Greek Centre accompanied by his maestro Vasilis Panagiotou and Greek Australian promoter Vasilis Mavrogiannis.

Mr Remos was welcomed at the Greek Centre by GCM president Bill Papastergiadis OAM and GCM Board members Assoc Prof Marinini Pirpiris, Helene Hiotis, Leonidas Vlahakis and GCM staff Jorge Menidis and Antonia Tsamis.

The singer who was on the Melbourne leg of his sold-out Australian tour was taken through the Greek Centre in Lonsdale Street seeing it in full flight as his visit coincided with Comedy Festival events at the Centre.

The German born artists spoke glowingly of his experience with diasporic communities and was impressed with the GCM’s education and cultural programs as they were explained by the hosting party.

Antonis spoke also on the various influences of music in Greece for him and the importance of the cultural influences’ music can have on people particularly the youth. He emphasised the leadership that people need to exhibit as musicians. In that regard, he referred to various initiatives he has proposed to the Greek Ministry of Culture on mentorship programs that he was keen to involve himself in for kids in Greece.

“Wherever I travel around the world, I feel that I come to communities that speak to a real Greek culture and identity thriving in these distant places.” Remοs said.

“Antonis, you bring us joy on stage and we share that extra bond with you as a Greek of the diaspora” said Bill Papastergiadis as he presented the visitors with a gift pack that included the GCM’s new history that was only recently published.

Bill P explained that Antonis ought not be upset that many of the GCM’s Board could not be at Antonis concert Saturday night as we had attended the same night the GCM’s theatre group production on the Asia Minor Catastrophe. That is, Bill P noted that “the GCM has a rich cultural program that spans the entire year and involves most aspects of culture from live music, dance, film, lectures, and theatre. The importance of this program is that much of it is produced locally”.

Of particular interest to Mr Remos, was the discussion of the Greek Summer Cultural Camp program, in Thessaloniki that the GCM started last year and is looking to run again in 2023.

“Forty young people on a hosted cultural excursion through Northern Greece funded initially with the support of the Greek Foreign Ministry” explained Papastergiadis continuing with “with the benefits for the participants spilling well beyond the 10 days of the camp itself. We see energised young people return with a list for Greek content – I am sure some of the 2022 cohort will see your shows whilst you are here because of a newfound enthusiasm in Greek cultural practice.

Mr Remos was moved by all the GCM hosts had to say and he was Antonis was moved by the breadth of programs and in particular the focus on Asia Minor. For him, the diaspora has a particular relevance for him as he explained his origins in Dusseldorf and its profound influence on him.

Leaving the Greek Centre, Antonis Remos congratulated the hosts and wished them success in the GCM’s future projects.

Ο ΑΝΤΩΝΗΣ ΡΕΜΟΣ ΕΠΙΣΚΕΦΤΗΚΕ ΤΗΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΚΟΙΝΟΤΗΤΑ ΜΕΛΒΟΥΡΝΗΣ ΤΗΝ ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗ 23 ΑΠΡΙΛΙΟΥ

Την Κυριακή 23 Απριλίου ο διάσημος ερμηνευτής Αντώνης Ρέμος επισκέφτηκε την Ελληνική Κοινότητα Μελβούρνης (ΕΚΜ) συνοδεία του μαέστρου Βασίλη Παναγιώτου του και του ελληνικής καταγωγής προμότερ Βασίλη Μαυρογιάννη.

Τον κύριο Ρέμο υποδέχτηκε ο Πρόεδρος της ΕΚΜ Βασίλης Παπαστεργιάδης, μέλη του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της ΕΚΜ: Βοηθός Καθηγητής Μαρίνης Πιρπιρης, Ελένη Χιώτη, Λεωνίδας Βλαχάκης και το προσωπικό της ΕΚΜ Γιώργος Μενίδης και Αντωνία Τσάμης.

Ο διάσημος ερμηνευτής ο οποίος βρίσκεται στην Αυστραλία για μια σειρά εμφανίσεων ξεναγήθηκε στο Ελληνικό Κέντρο στην καρδιά της Μελβούρνης. Κατά την διάρκεια της επίσκεψής του είδε και το Comedy Festival το οποίο διοργανώνεται στο Ελληνικό Κέντρο.

Ο Αντώνης Ρέμος έχει γεννηθεί στην Γερμανία, μοιράστηκε την εμπειρία του να είσαι κομμάτι της Ομογένειας και δήλωσε εντυπωσιασμένος από τα πλούσια εκπαιδευτικά και πολιτιστικά προγράμματα της ΕΚΜ.

«Κάθε φορά που ταξιδεύω το κόσμο για τις συναυλίες μου ,αισθάνομαι ότι οι ελληνικές κοινότητες αντικατοπτρίζουν απόλυτα τις ελληνικές αξίες και την κουλτούρα και αισθάνομαι υπερήφανος που «ανθίζουν» όσο μακριά και αν βρίσκονται από την Ελλάδα» δήλωσε με ενθουσιασμό ο κ. Ρέμος.

Ο Βασίλης Παπαστεργιάδης δράττοντας την ευκαιρία δήλωσε « Ο Αντώνης είναι ένας καλλιτέχνης ο οποίος προσφέρει στο κοινό ένα ξεχωριστό θέαμα. Επιπλέον μας δένει ένας ιδιαίτερος δεσμός μιας και είναι και εκείνος κομμάτι της διασποράς» .

Επιπλέον ο κ. Ρέμος κατά την διάρκεια της επίσκεψής του στο Ελληνικό Κέντρο έλαβε ως αναμνηστικό δώρο, το βιβλίο της κ, Γεωργίας Χαρπαντίδου «Σάρκα και Οστά της Μακρινής Πατρίδας».

Ο κ. Ρέμος έδειξε ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον κατά την διάρκεια της συζήτησης για την Πρόγραμμα της Θερινής Κατασκήνωσης για νέους στην Θεσσαλονίκη που διεξάχθηκε το 2022 και θα πραγματοποιηθεί και πάλι το 2023.

«Το πρόγραμμα το οποίο χρηματοδοτήθηκε αρχικά από την Γενική Γραμματεία Απόδημου Ελληνισμού και Δημόσιας Διπλωματίας, έδωσε την δυνατότητα σε 40 νέους από όλη την Αυστραλία να επισκεφτούν την Βόρεια Ελλάδα» εξήγησε ο Βασίλης Παπαστεργιάδης και συμπλήρωσε «Τα θετικά αποτελέσματα αυτού του προγράμματος έδωσε το έναυσμα να αναζωπυρώσουμε το ελληνικό στοιχείο και να καλλιεργήσουμε την φυσική περιέργεια των νέων για την ελληνική κουλτούρα»

Στο πέρας της επίσκεψής του ο κ. Ρέμος δήλωσε συγκινημένος από την φιλοξενία της ΕΚΜ και τους ευχήθηκε κάθε επιτυχία για το μέλλον.
