Event Details
The "invisible" women who have never been recorded in history. Post-Civil War Greece was marked by poverty, unemployment, and emigration, which became a one-way street for thousands of women, primarily from the villages of Northern Greece that had been devastated within a decade. Traveling by trains, boats, and one-way tickets, young women—some of whom were illiterate and did not know the language—arrived in the factories of Germany, having left their families behind. The documentary Mother of the Station follows the lives of these women who emigrated to Germany from the 1960s to 1973. World War II cast its shadow not only on European but also on Greek history, leading to a significant exodus from Greek villages to foreign lands.
