Event Details

The Greek Community of Melbourne in conjunction with the Hellenic Women's Network Vic HELIADES Inc. are organising a book launch and discussion with Ms Stella Petrikis Traganida, author from Greece. We will also be taking this opportunity to ‘Cut the Vasilopita’ for the New Year 2023.

Stella Petriki Tranganida was born and raised in Thessaly, in the small town of Ambelonas in the Tyrnavo region of Larissa. In the late 1960s, she was among the first to enter the University of Athens, where she studied English Philology, along with German and French. She continued her studies in the Politics Department of the Law Faculty and was later an educator in the public secondary education sector.

Upon retirement, she offered her services to the Greek Red Cross, and remains actively involved. She was a volunteer at the Athens Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2004 as well as at the Special Olympics in 2011.

In recent years, she has devoted herself to writing books with folkloric themes, fulfilling some of her inner desires. Her first book with the title 'Memories of another life, in Ambelonas, Larissa' was published in 2003. In it she describes the rural and social life of her place of origin in the last century. In 2009, her second book, 'Musical Listenings from Drymaia Fthiotida', was published, which included folk songs from Roumeli.

Her third book 'Old Tales from Thessaly', published in 2012, are recorded old tales from her birthplace.

Her most recent book 'The Circle of Lost Women', published in 2017, is a sorrowful novel, based on a true story in the past.
